An author talk with Asphyxia and Martha

Asphyxia, creator of the hit puppet show The Grimstones, wrote her first book at twelve and entered it in the St Kilda Writers’ Festival competition where it won first prize. Years later, in between performances of The Grimstones, Asphyxia received a phone call from Allen and Unwin: someone had seen the show and thought it would make a lovely book. While always wanting to be a writer, her life led her to so many surprising places
that she‘d relegated the idea of being published, and all the associated rejections she expected to go through, to a retirement plan.

Fortunately, retirement is a long way off and Asphyxia is able to take us on her journey from stage to page through her ‘Author Talk’ ... a 45 minute presentation with Auslan translation and the opportunity for audience questions. The audience will be able to peek inside Martha’s Magnificently Secret Diary, and delight in a guest appearance by Martha herself.

If you are presenting an ‘Author Talk by Asphyxia', the following information and downloads will assist your promotion.

Download our poster template and enter your venue details. Place your logos alongside ours. If the poster is to be sent to a print bureau, it is wise to save your file as a pdf before emailing. Alternatively, if you are going to print them yourself, the posters look more professional if the white space around the edges (where the printer can’t print) are trimmed. The teaching resource for the book Hatched, by Allen & Unwin is suitable for children 8-12 years and relevant for school, library or holiday program environments.
